Computer not running genuine Windows
« on: December 20, 2018, 06:56:10 pm »
I had two Windows 7 laptops, identical models, where one died and became spare parts and the other several months later had a disk failure. No big deal, I took the better one, replaced the disk and grabbed a backup image. Apparently from the other laptop. But hey, everything worked fine for months then suddenly it starts complaining that it's not running genuine Windows.

Yeah, that image probably belongs to the other one but it's all legit. It gives me a link to "Resolve online now" but when I use it, it says: We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found, on microsoft.com.

Googling for this, I found some pages to disable the message but is that the best way to tackle this? Any way to tell it here's the license?

With all the horror stories of unwanted / untimely Windows 10 updates, I'm nursing this one as long as I can.

You may not be able to apply updates, etc. if Windows is complaining about authenticity.

You might re-install Windows 7 from an OEM disk. Which would be flagged as "Genuine Windows."

Here's an Ebay seller with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit for $27ish.
