No experience with any of them but I sure would not trust number 14.

But "Kakasoft" - really??  Whoever founded that company has a sense of humor.

Any movement on this? I often wonder if one of the alternatives is better but I don't want to pay a yearly fee just to access my data plus I need to feel a level of trust and confidence that the software actually works flawlessly and without backdoors or other keys.

I never got back to this thread.

No, you're not going to pay ANYTHING if you want to trust the software absolutely.  OPEN SOURCE all the way for lack of back doors, lack of lock-in, and transparency.

So only consider FOSS programs. Nothing commercial, ever.

That's just it. And even things like AxCrypt that have a free or community version, where's the source code?

I like your ideas about Cryptkeeper and often think about just rolling my own with something like Gpg4win.

Thanks. I still use it and it's still solid.

You would go to all of that trouble and run *nix encryption stuff on top of Windows? Wow, I thought *I* was a masochist.  :P

I've used PGP since it came out in the early 90's, was it '92 or something. Then they bought it and became 100% commercial. Very sad. You now have to buy it. Well, Linux has GPG which is the same thing I suppose, debugged and improved.
