Windows 10, what a stupid user interface design

I think it's a giant step backwards.

The control panel does not show up in the default when you hit Win-x, you have to use cortana or search for it. Or add it.

Took me 15 minutes to figure out how to change a user's password. In Seven, it was all of 20 seconds.  Seems they changed things around just for the sake of changing them. Without actually improving anything.

I hate the Windows 10 interface.  Its too bloated for no reason.  I set up a couple of PCs and spent well over an hour customizing them to make them useable.  Get rid of Cortana.  Its an annoying PITA.  It reminds me of Clippy (remember him?) that kept popping up with stupid suggestions in Office 97, only worse.

Unless you buy the professional version of Windows 10, you can't control the Windows updates.  If you have older programs, that could be a problem.  With Windows 7, even the home edition, I can still pick and choose what updates I want to install.

Blah.  One day I'll have to move to it, but when I do I will rework the entire registry to make it look like Windows 7.

You know you should be able to monetize that.   If You could fix Win 10 to look and act like Win 7, I would gladly pay as quite a few other people would.   Go for it!!

Windows 10 interface is shit. It looks like something from X Windows circa 1990 with the stupid stick figure icons and stuff buried where you can't find it.

You can get Windows 10 pretty useable if you take the time to edit the taskbars, put back the run line, administrative tools and things like that.  You have to uninstall all the crap programs that come with Windows 10 and disable unneeded services.  Its just a very tedious process and if you've never customized a PC you wouldn't know what to do.  As usual, MS has moved things around or renamed them so you can't find what you're looking for.

Even with MS office, you can customize those horrific ribbon toolbars, but it takes a long time to do.  I'm sure someone has made a shell program to emulate Windows 7 on a Windows 10 PC.

Every time Windows changes, you can't find anything. I have no idea why they keep doing this. Same thing with their programming languages. They just keep spinning the same old thing in new ways with different names. Plus they over-complicate operations, like connecting to a database and getting some data. Some tools make it so easy but I need an ADO book for MS stuff.

With that said, who here has gotten use to the ribbon in Office? Know their way around and prefer it to over the "old" menu system?

So true.

MS's business model depends on their selling Windows, Office, and their developer products over and over again. The only way for them to do this is to change them in every release. Then they can claim they're "new" and charge for them again.

The part they change is the user interface -- because that's the only part of the system visible to customers. The new UI is what makes every release "new" -- even if it's just cosmetic crap.

The business model worked extremely well for MS in the past. I'm surprised it continues to work in this more modern age, where computers and consumer software has become so commoditized. It surprises me that customers don't start to leave them.
