what are some cool computer news sites?

Computer as in hardware developments and news and what the next great thing will be. Case in point, SSD, processors, monitors and stuff.
Cryptocurrency seems to be a permanent part of the IT landscape.

What is that bit about processor flaw I see floating around.

Sick to death of political forums.

The Register broke the story about the processor flaws. It's pretty good -- www.theregister.co.uk/

Also www.Wired.com/ and http://arstechnica.com/ are pretty good.

I agree that the processor flaws are pretty good.  >:D

Seriously, I love the snarky vulture logoed The Register. The best of British snark.

British snark is the best.  The processor flaws shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.  Big Brother is always watching.

I read the forum.notebookreview.com for technical assistance, they are pretty good with my aging Dell L702x (XPS 17) and the MSI Titan. It's in the forum format. It's not really a "news site" though.

Android forums is really nice for Android stuff though it's not a news source either.

There was that forum in the late 90's I used to read but cannot remember the name anymore. Oh wait. Slash dot. Has it been that long.

How a researcher hacked his own computer and found 'worst' chip flaw

This article is not nearly technical enough to explain “how”.  But it’s still some interesting history.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-cyber-intel-researcher/how-a-researcher-hacked-his-own-computer-and-found-worst-chip-flaw-idUSKBN1ET1ZR

The author of this article admits his understanding is over-simplified, but it's still interesting.

https://www.computerworld.com/article/3245767/apple-mac/apple-acts-as-digital-transformation-hits-panic-mode.html

The details in this article get pretty technical.

Intel speaks out on fixes for ‘Meltdown’ and ‘Spectre’ CPU exploits, their impact

Intel now says it has a fix for the Spectre bug that Google found to be unfixable

http://www.businessinsider.com/intel-says-processors-will-be-immune-from-spectre-and-meltdown-2018-1

The US Government brutally laid out the magnitude of the Intel processor vulnerabilities that affect almost everyone

"The underlying vulnerability is primarily caused by CPU implementation optimization choices. Fully removing the vulnerability requires replacing vulnerable CPU hardware," says the bulletin.

Apple is updating its software to combat chip security holes

Apple says the patches will have "no measurable effect" on performance.

Spectre affects more chips, including the Arm processors used in iPhones and iPads.

Apple confirms all Mac and iOS devices are affected by Meltdown and Spectre bugs

“All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time,” the company writes in a blog post. “Since exploiting many of these issues requires a malicious app to be loaded on your Mac or iOS device, we recommend downloading software only from trusted sources such as the App Store.”

Apple Watch devices are not affected by Meltdown in any way, Apple said.
