It's a sanitary thing.

That's just because you eat Cheetohs while you work on your workstation and you don't wash your hands. :P

Once when I was working late at night, I had a mouse -- literally -- run across my shoes. I doubt he knew I was a live animal that he ran across, since I was sitting still at the tube while working.  Geeeep !

Yeah, you definitely read to him like an inanimate object. G, D, R.

You never know what you'll see when you're working at night.  Its kind of creepy.  I used to work in a renovated silk factory and though it was nicely updated, at night, when it was empty, you were reminded it was still an old building with lots of weird sounds.  I never had mice though.  Oh, that's bad.

It'll be interesting to see how they roll out Windows 10.  Maybe they'll customize it?

One thing about Windows 10 -- it won't allow users to refuse updates.

So when Windows 11 or whatever comes out next, your machine will be automatically upgraded by Microsoft.

No more pesky customers who won't upgrade! (like all those still on Windows 7).

Is this for work or home?

For home, just dont turn off all the automatic updates. At work you probably have no choice.

My understanding is that you can not turn off automatic updates like you could in previous versions.

People have lived with it long enough now that they developed some kludgy work-arounds -- see www.pcworld.com/article/3085136/windows/two-ways-to-control-or-stop-windows-10-updates.html

No registry hacks to disable or control updates?

Geez, I'd start using Linux as a desktop and demote a Windows 10 instance to a VM in order to contain it like the software Ebola that it is.

If you buy the professional version of Windows 10, you can control automatic Windows update with a group policy.  MS made it harder to administer PCs in a networked environment and took away the ability to refuse Windows updates if you buy the home version.

I'm staying with Windows 7 as long as I can.

Then there is that shut10 app I installed -- saw it on this very forum.  I think it has that option, to turn off updates.

There are lots of tools out there to disable automatic updates and the privacy nonsense in Win10.

https://windowsreport.com/best-windows-10-privacy-protection-software/

https://www.ghacks.net/2015/08/14/comparison-of-windows-10-privacy-tools/

http://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/sortname/windows_10_fixes.html

I dont use Win10 because among other things I hate the interface and lack of control.  I am staying on Win7 forever. The only reason to use Windows quite honestly is if you need MS Office or some Microsoft only tool.

I have my person laptop dual booting with Ubuntu and Win7. I dont barely use Windows any longer between the Ubuntu and my Mac. There is just no need based on what I do with the computer. I can surf the web on any computer and dont need Windows to do that.
