CVS pharmacy clerk had a barcode stuck to her hand
« on: November 24, 2017, 11:43:44 am »
I asked her why she had a barcode sticker on her hand and she said that's what they all had to have for credentials.  Didn't go to the front of the store to see if the non-pharmacy clerks had them also.

I guess it beats having a chip implanted.  I suppose I shouldn't be disconcerted by this, but I guess I am.   :-X

Whatever happened to the old fashioned ID badge with implanted chip for door access.   That's what everyone else uses.

Maybe it's something special for the pharmacy department.

Now i am really curious.   I am going to stop in a CVS pharmacy department tomorrow and see whether they have the same hand barcode.   If so, I am going to ask what's up with that!

^I googled "CVS hand barcode"  and it didn't come up with anything.

I hope I'm not starting an internet fake news story.  Surely it would turn up in a Google search if it was a national program.  Also, CVS would have to be really stupid to start something like that.

The exact transaction was:

Me:  "Why do you have that barcode sticker on your hand?"
Clerk: (Looking somewhat embarrassed.) Mutters something about "credentials".

Me:  "Does everyone have to wear one?"
Clerk:  "Yes."

I'm going to guess:

It's a local manager's policy.

The barcode sticker is actually supposed to be on a card or something that employees in certain roles need to use for access to on the job related equipment or locks or access.

The manager probably saw employees misplacing the cards/barcodes and mandated that they keep them on their hand or wrist. Like writing a note to yourself on your hand.

Maybe they're prototyping a biometric program.  If this works out they can use fingerprint readers.

I wouldn't be surprised by that eventuality.
