You have to be kidding.

This site is f***ed. My browser won't even open the page, claiming a security risk.

OpenDNS reports to me:

This site is blocked due to a phishing threat.    Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to get you to provide personal information under false pretenses.
 Sorry, lowendbox.com has been blocked by your network administrator.

Ha-ha-ha of course if it's too good to be true then it probably is.

Ran across this while reading up on VPN services. Also I can open it with minimal complaining from my system (like almost none).

You must be running VERY old software. My browser won't even load the SSL version. Surely you had warnings? Says there is no security certificate. Logically, why on earth would you host with a company that can't get their own home page right?

I didn't get any warnings, but it looks like a scam to me.  I'm using Chrome and Norton.

Only warning I get is some content is insecure or it's a mixed content site. And that's with Norton and malwarebytes live or whatever they call it running under Firefox.

Haha looks legit to me. Maybe you're running in paranoid mode?

I don't get any warnings in either Linux or Windows.  I don't know whether they are legitimate or not.  But I do have a problem with their pricing structure.  In order for them to make a profit on any server, they would have to pack an awful lot of VPS's on a physical server box.  That means a serious performance hit on each VPS.   The only way to tell whether this outfit is legit is for someone here willing to take the risk is to buy a cheap VPS and see what happens.   If I were to do it I would use a one time use virtual credit card number just in case.

=============

Hold on.  I am looking over that site and it appears to me that they don't actually offer or sell anything.  They appear to be a listing site for other organizations to list cheap VPS and Reseller hosting.   Anyone else read that over enough to pick that up?

=========

Looks like some of these offers are scams.  For example KudoHosting lists a Reseller 600 GB setup with unmetered bandwidth for $29/hear.   But if you go to their site using the link, the actual price is $29/month.   I'll check out a few others.

Pxsant, Waterfox on Linux and also Chromium are both refusing to even load the site.

Richard, no paranoid mode. Your site is the only one I've seen for a long time that displays these errors. The error I get is like there is not even an SSL certificate installed:

Quote
Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from lowendbox.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more
NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID

I have a self created certificate for SSL on my own VPS. The browser complains but I can click through the warnings and it keeps my choice permanently. Your site doesn't even get that far.

I've posted regularly about hosting deals that are legitimate.  Here is one that worked for me for awhile.

I have sent inquiries to 4 of the organizations listed.   All of their Web sites appear virtually identical except for details.   Their response auto emails all look absolutely identical except for the company they supposedly originated from.   This whole thing has to be a scam.

The Gorn, my "paranoid mode" comment was somewhat tongue in check but maybe you're onto something?

On the surface, these look like offers for hosting but none of the actual sites have these "deals", though some of them look like "good deals" nonetheless. If you believe them, they are trying to list cheap hosting deals. I have to agree that if the offers are legit, they must be very oversold, since how do they make any money?

I know it was tongue in cheek. I'm on Linux, so perhaps the browsers on that platform are more particular about security.

I don't know why we're still discussing this stupid scammy site. I finally pulled the site up on my phone.  Basically, I do not believe the prices for what is claimed they are offering.  2GB VPS with Windows for 35/yr? NO. The pricing for legitimate hosts, with free Linux, is more like $3/mo to start for a 256MB VPS.

This place is offering an order of magnitude "more" than what everyone else offers. That says it's a scam.

If you even GET a VPS when you order, I suspect the boxes are heavily overcommitted.

Surely after all these years you know that very cheap shared hosting means pure shit performance, 100s of sites on one underpowered server? This is likely the same thing, assuming it's not a scam to collect credit card numbers.

Ha-ha so true.

With that said, I was just thinking I should shop around for a new host. Is that Virtual Machine Solutions place legit? I don't have a strong need but like to have access to a box to play with. Maybe host a site or two?

I used it for several months. It's legit. Reviews vary, some people think the owner is a shithead, but it's the best deal I found for a very cheap minimal VPS. If you need/want a better VPS with more reasonable specs, OVH.com has very good values and is VERY legitimate (they are the 2nd largest web farm in the world behind AWS.)

Wow, their bottom end looks very cheap. Honestly, it's been some time since I ran a VPS and feel like I'd need a beginners guide to start over. It's tempting to just pick one and run with it to re-freshen my skills while on the other hand I keep thinking why bother?  Wow, this is a crappy place to be.
