Windows 10 keeps changing
« on: July 29, 2018, 07:02:07 am »

Trying to find instructions how to do this or that and a lot of times finding versions that are not even applicable at all to the latest-greatest.  Windows 10 has changed significantly versus previous versions like Seven.

The menus change. Options change. Some have been entirely disabled.

What a cluster.

Windows 10 is an absolute piece of crap.   You can't disable updates anymore.   Windows 10 did an update on my machine yesterday that took 3 hours and multiple reboots.  And now things have changed yet again.   What a POS.

MS owns the entire laptop/PC operating system landscape. why can't Linux finally take over this mess?

Marketing, and legal issues (companies love to have a vendor to sue and for credibility.) Plus the normies - the intellectually barely adequate masses - are easily scared to death of anything requiring tinkering.

It's totally your choice if you want to make a move.  You can read right on this forum about the fun I've had maintaining a stable usable desktop platform.

Wow, outside of development my main machine runs Windows XP. Yeah, I know it's time but it just keeps on running. For online email, surfing, etc. it's good enough.

I think it's almost impossible to get away from Windows if you need to connect to something. Your phone expects to see Windows, printer setup discs use Windows, etc. but if you're just consuming, I don't think it makes a difference. I've used both Windows and Linux in the past but it seems like I eventually default back to Windows. I just dread the thought of upgrading to Win 10 for everyday stuff. I'll get a more powerful machine with tons of memory and have the same performance as I do now.

I don't know what MS is thinking about with it's updates. I've heard from people either preparing or during a presentation where suddenly Windows "needs" to do an update and it runs for hours. How is this acceptable?

What do you do about drivers?

I have encountered some newer hardware that Win7 does not recognize and it was very tough to find drivers. I have a feeling this is on purpose to force you to Win10. F*CK THAT.

I am using Kubuntu and a Mac. Microshaft can eat my as*.
