I am exciting about all the new SSDs Samsung keeps making.

PM981 SSD PCIe 2280 format, the fastest yet they made. I also want this 2.5" module they have, that's now up to 4TB. Expensive, but should come down in price. I might be content with the 2TB module.

Samsung 860 Pro.

Its endurance has gotten an order of magnitude better. Versus the older 850, which is what I have.  It absolutely flies compared to the old spinning rust.

There is retail cost, street price and Ebay price.

Looked at completed Ebay auctions, I see it goes for around $600. the 2TB model that is and the 1TB goes for around $300. Not a bad deal.  The 4TB retails for $1600 or such and goes for 1000-1000 on Ebay.

I am going to shuffle some SSD later this year, I have another laptop with a dying HDD. Plan to install a 1TB 850 that I use in my primary and upgrade it to the 2TB model.

I don't know that you can quantify the speed difference between various SSD. They are all pretty fast.  Now the speed difference between HDD and SSD is very obvious.

I've noticed that SSD are coming down in price, fast. I got my Samsung 850 a year ago for 270, now it seems to go for less than 200.


HDD is as obsolete as the VHS tape player.
