It was a moment of clarity for me. I asked myself "what is this place for"? Older/mature/highly experienced tech people. Contractors and consultants too. That's the core.

This new name cuts the BS. I think.

See other recent threads for an explanation of the purpose. (Yes, this is the second major domain change in the last year.)

I made as sure as possible that we don't lose any SEO juice from this move. The last domains (forums.techcareerfubar.com, computerconsultantsforum.com) are redirected here. The redirection has been improved, too. I'm seeing Google search bots visiting the site immediately after the domain change. So I must have done something right.

I decided that I don't like techcareerfubar.com. It's an in-joke for the disgruntled and I'd prefer that people don't see the site as embittered and that a few new members join. I plan to let that domain expire. Also as explained in the logged in member only sections I'm abandoning the concept of deliberately helping people retool their careers and thinking. Nobody's looking for that. People look for connections and interesting things to talk about. Let such discussions arise organically.

People may have stayed away due to stupid or misplaced branding. I came up with it, so if it's stupid, I'll cop to that.

I also found something interesting. Searching on the phrase "mature IT pro" brings us up as hit #1. Talk about the long tail. :P

It was not stupid and completely not your fault, Gorn.

I just do not want you think to think any of these malfunctions are your fault. They are not. So you experiment with creativity. So some terms generate more traffic than others, all is "OK" and normal.

The IQ of the average IT-er has dropped drastically in the last 18 years it seems.  Now it's like working in McDonalds with the lowest common denominator. Your made a board to strive for excellence and high intellect, missing the McDonalds crowd by a nautical mile.

I've seen some smart creative talented individuals and while they still exist, they are so few in IT. Seems like one person out of 100 these days.

Everybody is in IT and it's completely just another "gig/job/whatever".

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything like that. I just find that the new branding has a more professional vibe to it. Its something you don't find much of these days.
